JOIN THE PIRATE TV CREW
Where salt meets soul and stories heal the coast.
Pirate TV is the storytelling arm of the Pumicestone Passage Pirates Inc., where we shine a light on what really matters in our community—fishing, camping, four-wheel driving, mental health, suicide prevention, Indigenous innovation, accessibility, domestic violence support, and the power of belonging. We're building a crew of passionate, curious, and community-driven individuals who want to help us film, edit, create, and connect. Below are the roles we’re recruiting for:

Producer (First mate)
The Producer is the glue of Pirate TV. You’ll be responsible for planning and managing the production schedule, booking interviews and shoot locations, coordinating the media crew, securing permissions, and making sure everyone is where they need to be, when they need to be there.
You must be highly organised, calm under pressure, and confident communicating with a variety of people—from camera crew to community elders. You must excel in time management, planning, and problem-solving.
You should be passionate about community storytelling, working in teams, and helping projects run smoothly from start to finish.

2. Director (Captain of the Ship)
The Director is the creative leader of the production. You’ll decide how segments are structured, how interviews flow, how scenes are shot, and how the message is delivered. You’ll work closely with the crew to make sure Pirate TV stays engaging, authentic, and true to our purpose.
You must be comfortable giving direction, thinking creatively, and making decisions on the fly. You must excel in leadership, visual storytelling, and setting a clear vision for others to follow.
You should be passionate about using media to inspire change, spark emotion, and tell the real stories of real people.

3. Videographer (Deckhand of the Lens)
-
As a videographer, you’ll use DSLR cameras, GoPros, or smartphones to capture footage of our events, interviews, community outings, and nature scenes. You’ll need to understand angles, lighting, and basic shooting techniques.
You must be confident handling cameras or eager to learn quickly. You must excel in attention to detail, framing, and adaptability (filming in various environments).
You should be passionate about visual storytelling and showing the world what the heart of this community looks like through your lens.

4. Drone Operator (Sky Scout)
The Drone Operator captures stunning aerial footage of the Pumicestone Passage, our boats, our bushland, and our people. You’ll help us get dynamic overhead shots that showcase the beauty of the region.
You must be licensed or working toward a drone license and understand drone safety and navigation. You must excel in smooth flying, spatial awareness, and capturing sweeping, cinematic visuals.
You should be passionate about landscape cinematography and seeing the world from above to help us tell a fuller story.

5. Photographer (Image Buccaneer)
Photographers will take high-quality stills at every Pirate TV event or filming session. Your job is to document the joy, connection, emotion, and energy of our community in action.
You must be experienced with DSLR or mirrorless cameras (or a skilled mobile photographer) and understand composition, light, and timing. You must excel in capturing candid moments and dynamic scenes.
You should be passionate about freezing moments that matter and helping tell stories through powerful imagery.

6. Video Editor (Quartermaster of Cuts)
Editors take raw footage and shape it into compelling stories for YouTube, social media, and our website. You’ll add transitions, graphics, music, and subtitles, creating polished final products that reflect the heart of Pirate TV.
You must be skilled in programs like Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or CapCut, or willing to learn under guidance. You must excel in storytelling structure, pacing, and emotion.
You should be passionate about turning hours of content into 3–10 minute videos that educate, move, and entertain.

7. Sound Recordist (Whisper Catcher)
The Sound Recordist ensures every interview and video segment has clean, clear audio. You’ll handle lapel mics, boom mics, and audio levels during shoots.
You must have some experience with sound equipment or be willing to learn hands-on. You must excel in listening carefully, troubleshooting on-site, and recording in noisy or windy environments.
You should be passionate about quality sound and helping the voices of our community be heard—clearly and proudly.

8. Presenter / Host (Ship’s Bard) That's Fixo - President of the Pirates Inc.
The Presenter is the face and voice of Pirate TV. You’ll introduce segments, interview guests, guide event coverage, and make viewers feel welcome and connected.
You must be confident on camera, a strong communicator, and able to improvise when things change suddenly. You must excel in presence, charisma, and building rapport with guests.
You should be passionate about storytelling, representing your community, and making every person feel seen and heard.

9. Scriptwriter / Researcher (Navigator)
As the Scriptwriter, you’ll prepare questions for interviews, write segment introductions, and help create the structure for each episode. You’ll also research topics, people, and local history to guide production.
You must have strong writing skills, a curious mind, and good attention to detail. You must excel in tone, flow, and understanding what will connect with our audience.
You should be passionate about storytelling, education, and helping shape narratives that bring out the best in our people.
