What Are Pirate Circles?

Pirate Circles are supportive, structured community gatherings created to help people feel seen, heard and connected. They exist to reduce isolation, strengthen belonging, and provide a safe space for open and honest conversation. Pirate Circles are not therapy. They are preventative, community‑based wellbeing gatherings designed to support people before challenges become crisis.

The heart of Pirate Circles is simple:
No Pirate Stands Alone.
Every Circle is a place where people can speak openly, be supported, and be part of something bigger than themselves.
Every Circle helps Making the Invisible VISIBLE by bringing hidden struggles into the light in a safe and respectful environment.
Every Circle is an extension of the #PiratesOffThePlank movement and the message it carries.

WHY PIRATE CIRCLES EXIST

Pirate Circles exist because many people carry invisible weight, stress, or life challenges they feel they must hide. The Pirates movement recognises that hidden struggles become less heavy when shared, and that connection is one of the strongest forms of prevention.

The philosophy is clear:

  • Connection protects.

  • Community strengthens.

  • Belonging restores.

  • No Pirate Stands Alone.

Pirate Circles turn these ideas into action.

They offer a regular, supported space where people can come together, feel included, and experience the power of community. They help make the invisible visible, giving people the chance to express what they usually keep buried and to discover they aren’t alone.

MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENT

Pirate Circles are free for all financial members of the organisation.
Any membership level qualifies.

Membership keeps the program sustainable, safe and governed.
It ensures facilitators are supported and gatherings remain accessible to everyone who needs them.

Anyone who wishes to join a Circle must first become a member.

HOW A PIRATE CIRCLE WORKS

  4. Belonging and Support
People build friendships and support networks that extend far beyond the Circle.

  5. Continued Connection
Circles reinforce the belief that No Pirate Stands Alone. Support continues between gatherings.

Every Circle is designed to honour dignity, respect and lived experience.
Every Circle helps Making the Invisible VISIBLE.
Every Circle strengthens the purpose of #PiratesOffThePlank.

ACCESSIBILITY AND INCLUSION

Pirate Circles are created to be accessible, welcoming and inclusive.
Everyone deserves a safe place to connect, regardless of age, background, ability or experience.

The organisation believes that accessible spaces are not just practical — they are preventative. When people can participate fully, they feel protected, connected and included.

Everyone is welcome.
